So Saturday during it raining all day. I decide to go ahead and mount the SM420 up to the Small block Chevy. Ethan (age 6) is down with me helping.
We get the engine / flywheel / clutch / bellhousing all installed - along with a million questions from Ethan on how all this works. He is really taking it all in...
We take a break for lunch then I pull out the sm420. I let him shift it through the gears so he sees the input and output shafts all turn at different rates.
Then we decide to mount it up to the bellhousing. Well about an hour later... and it is still not going in. I figure there is 1 or 2 things wrong. A: the pilot bearing or B: I grabbed the wrong bellhousing...
So we pull the bell housing and mount it up the sm420 - prefect fit. Check the clutch disc alignment and pilot bearing. They look ok.
At this point I am tired as heck from wrestling it and was going to call it a day.
Ethan then says- Come on dad just one more time - but this time let put it on with the big peice (Bellhousing) attached. I know it will fit.
We gave it one last try - lined up perfect and went right in.
Words cannot say how proud I am of him. He really watches and analyzes everything.
