Have a bad alternator. Started the job last night but didn't get too far. Where on earth is the radiator drain cock? By the FSM it looks like it should be on the drivers side but I couldn't find it. Moved on to the belts and am having a devil of a time with the PS pump bolt. Not the pivot bolt but the main one on the LH side of the pump. Your help would be great.

I'm removing the upper hose for more clearance. I did remove the crash plate, poked around and didn't find the silly petcock. I know it should be in plain sight but I wasn't abel to find it.

Bottom driver's side corner of radiator. It's a little obscured by some lines that are running down in that area, but you shouldn't be having too much trouble locating it.

Not sure if the rad is OEM. There's a couple of looms running along the bottom that might be hiding the petcock.
I do have little red flecks of radiator all over the engine compartment. Need to remove, clean and paint soon.

Hmm...you really don't need to pull the radiator or even any radiator hoses to get the alternator out...you do have to take the battery tray out, but that's it.

you could always just pull the drainplug on the engine to drain the radiator, it's a all or nothing thing so be prepared, and it makes a mess, but would get 'er drained.

Good Luck...

Still a bit  ...

On a 91 the battery tray is on the passenger side so that doesn't need to come out. The upper hose was just to make it a little easier for my one bannana skills.
The big problem so far is the main bolt on the PS pump. :o

I have seen an aftermarket radiator this weekend in fact that had the drain on the passenger side. standing on the bumper, looking straight down the engine side of radiator on passenger side. sits above a diagonal frame crossmember. I can get a pic if you need one. But note, this is not a petcock is is simply a plug in the case I just saw, white vinyl. I would like to caution you on a mistake I made about a year ago, remember where each bolt on the PS pump goes...there are different lengths. If this is not on the FJ 60...forget everyhting I just said.

I'll take another gander tonight and see what 's up. Heck, if nothing else I can just loosen a hose and let'er go. The PS pump bolt is my main concern now. I think I can get better leverage with a box end if I remove a couple of heater hoses that are in the way. We'll see.

Or you can just remove the lower radiator hose. That will get the radiator flushed. Of course, if you want the top hose out of the way, just remove it and live with the mess - problem is the mess will be right on top of the alternator.

And yes, if it is any consolation the PS bolt was ridiculously hard to crack in my '91, use a big breaker bar and plenty of PB Blaster.

Santiago, did you have to remove those 2 heater hoses that are in the way next to 'that bolt'? I cant seem to get a box end on it with some throw unless they're removed.

That bolt you are trying to get at is tough, use a small little gear wrench, I just did it, and used a small box end wrench with some force...sucker finally broke free. I did not remove anything else....

Granted I have small hands.....Ah crap, did I just say that....ha ha

aaaahhhhhhh, things are kind of falling into place. I found the petcock I think.
Looks like the prob seeing it was there isn't much to see.

(the little white circle to the left of t the nut type thing(the tranny line)

Looks like the wings on the petcock are broken off. Looks like the right spot for the thing. Pretty sure that's it.
Just dumped some of the juice out the uppper hose. A little messy but got the job done(the coolant).
The PS pump bolt when right away. The lube last night did the trick.
Now I'm cook'in with wesson.
Onward...

Russ,

Dunno what's bad about your alt, but on the 93+, you can replace the contacts/brushes in 5 minutes on them just by removing an access plate. Yours may be different, but thought I'd mention this in case that's what your issue is.

You guys must be multi bannana wrenches. I guess the alt could be pulled without removing stuff but that's not the route I'm taking.
Maybe brushes and bearings but for sure the diodes are bad also. This alt is below the smog pump.
Just me and my one  mentality.

Yessiree. Spot on. Only mine is broken off.
Thanks for the confirmation.
