PO deciede to install a GM alt on my 75 and butcher most of the wiring harness in the process. He eliminated the voltage regulator and screwed up most of the alt wiring in the process.

I installed a newer style internally regulated alternator from a 1985 fj-60 to my 1975 Fj-40.

I got the back post hooked up to the white/blue wire (going to the amp meter gauge or battery +) Now on the plug (that I don't have) there is an IGN prong and another (cannot remember the letter). To charge the fields, I have to have power going to the Ign prong.

What is the other Prong for? Ground?

On the IGN, does this have to be constant 12v say from the pos on the coil switched on with the key, or just on/off 12V ?

Thanks

there are 3 prongs/connectors on the plug, one is un-used, I forget which but I recall it being for a ground(which it doesn't need. So you should have the big wire to the post and 2 others to the alt, forget again which is which.

Well the point I am at now is that the FJ alt is installed and the GM one is not going back on.

On the plug I have there are only 2 prongs. 1 is the IGN, the other I am going to assume is the ground, unless someone knows for sure. Thanks
