I'm installing an alpine cda-9857 into my 2000 landcruiser. I'm using the metra 70-8113 wiring harness. I've already connected all the wires except for the black ground wire. Instructions say to connect the black ground wire from the Alpine receiver to the black ground wire on the wiring harness. But I've read some guys grounding the wire directly from the receiver to the LC and bypassing the harness. Can it be done either way? which is better?

Also, see the pick below.

Where does this LC wire plug into the Alpine? The one on the right plugs into the Alpine Antenna receptacle (easy). What does the one on the left do and where does it plug? There's no obvious spot for it on the Alpine?

thanks guys.

If you are referring to the main black ground (with the large metal end) I had motor noise in my 80 until I grounded it to the frame. I would think good ground is like too rich or too thin, you can't have too much.

thanks. that was the one I was referring to.

Also, I found out from Crutchfield that the other plug (the smaller of the two) is just another antenna plug. it does not connect to anything on the alpine. Just tested it out and it sounds great. I didn't realize how bad the old radio sounded until just listening to the new Alpine. Breaking for dinner now.

I'll install the radio and dash face later and post pics of my ipod connection as well.
