Hey everyone,

I wanted to share my experience installing both a front and rear bumper from Alibaba on my LX470 (100 Series platform). I know these budget options get brought up from time to time, but there’s not always a ton of real-world info out there, so I figured I’d document what I did and how they turned out.

I recently installed both bumpers and put together a video going through the process, fitment, and my overall thoughts. I tried to keep it straightforward and honest so anyone considering this route can make a more informed decision before buying.

The goal here isn’t to hype anything up, just to add some actual data points for the community. There are definitely tradeoffs compared to higher-end brands, but depending on your build and budget, it might make sense for some people.

If you’re curious, here are the links:

I’d really appreciate any feedback, questions, or thoughts from you guys.

Also, if you find the video helpful, feel free to drop a like, comment, or even subscribe. I’m planning to keep making content around the LX470 / 100 Series platform and contribute more where I can.

If you know anyone who’s been considering these bumpers, feel free to share the video with them as well.

Thanks 👍

Just need to find 2 hours to watch them both and find out :p
I mean it took me few weekends to make both videos. They are long but if you skip to the last 10 mins of the video. That’s where the overview of the bumpers start in each video.

The video covers all of this
I actually watched the front bumper video. Didn't see any shipping box at the beginning, didn't see any link to the bumper in the description section. I would love to finish watching the video, unfortunately I got motion sickness from watching it.

Jeez man. You sure have a lot to say. The link is in the comments. For some reason YouTube doesn’t let me post the link in the description.

Here’s a video of how it came packaged.

Can’t do much about your motion sickness.

I guess my question is how hard was it to take the leap of faith… Alibaba scares the S%*t out of me. How did you decide which vendor was legit or not? I’ve seen parts I’d like to buy but sometimes they want to sell you 10-20 of the part… I’ve heard nightmares with returns when they need to happen. Also the lead times on some of these products are over a month unless you pay excessive shipping costs.

How long did it take to get the product? Was it worth the wait?

Thanks for taking the time to put together some long videos on the bumpers. I do understand the cost difference between these and others such as ARB or Dissent is pretty huge (the ARB rear I plan on getting runs about $4k). They do look pretty cool.

I haven’t watched the full videos yet and perhaps you cover this; are they crash tested and airbag compliant for use in the USA, Australia and Europe, and what is the quality of the steel and the manufacturing used? I wasn’t able to find that information on the product websites. I would hate for them to alter the deployment of an airbag in a way that could potentially cause or worsen injuries to a passenger or myself.

Thanks for vid.
I wonder if its possible to upgrade the locking mechnism so its self latching.
Would you recommend upgrading all the bolts or just the frame bolts.
It looks like you shaved off the frame washer bolts to fit in that tight area. Why did that not work? It seems by elimating the gusset it would decrease the strenght a bit.

You started asking questions before even watching the video or even clicking on the link to open the YouTube page to see the link to the product. The only valid question you had was if they came in cardboard boxes. I didn’t spend my time making this video for lazy people to ask questions that I answered in the video. Your “feedback” isn’t feedback it’s just complaining.

Well I ordered a drawer system from the same seller and they worked with me pretty well. You honestly just have to ask a ton of questions. My contact was named Jessie. They were really helpful and answered any question I had so I felt pretty comfortable. I always look for sellers with a MQB of 1 just so I know I can buy one. Alibaba has a filter for this. The lead times can be long for sure it took about 2 months for my stuff to ship from China to me in SLC. And that’s not including the manufacturing time if it’s required. Usually non custom items they have inventory already tour ship. I’m pretty happy with everything so far because they work like they’re intended to and I didn’t have to spend 4k on bumpers and 1.5k on drawers.

The front bumper does have some crumple zones but the rear doesn’t. I don’t think the rear would pass a factory vehicle crash test. I am noticing the most LC100 rear bars are just frame mounted with not crumple zones so I don’t think these alibaba ones stand out that’s much in that sense. Most newer cars are way safer than these trucks. I think in a higher speed impact it would probably perform the same as stock but I do think in lower impacts more of the inertia would be transfer to the occupants.

There has to be a way. I want to upgrade them too. I think eventually I will try to find a way but it’s not going to a priority for me just yet.
If your oem bolts are in good shape use them. If not I would recommend finding some 10.9 class bolts with the same specs and using them. I would only be concerned about the mounting bolts as they’re the important ones really
In my opinion I felt like I had to remove the gusset on one side to use the washers. Even after modifying the washers they still would not fit so that’s why I ended up just cutting one side of the mounting gusset. If I’m ever in a situation where because of those missing gussets the bumper bends then I feel like the car would have damage else where too and it would just get totaled.
