any body heard of thought about using michelins airless tire called the tweel it's avaible for skid steers and atvs any chance it might be or could be used offroad mayble not rock crawling

no, it will actually weigh way more than an aired tire, because of the different compounds used to make it. It would have very VERY little sidewall flex, and rather stone age tread patterns, if its the one im thinking of.

i seen a bob cat earlier today with them on it actully has alot of flex and a whole lotta grip their on a spoke design didn't get to ask about costs and all but the guy said he'd rather have them then have to keep pumping up the tires

if it already has no air in it, how are you going to air down for the trail? Airing down is a pretty important part of 4 wheeling...

good point....

I would bet that it is an off road only application, and as such is optimized for dirt given a certain weight vehicle producing a certain amount of torque.

their being widley used by lumber companys when they are lumber cutting

The skid steer airless tire's actually flex pretty good. Air tires on a skid steer will sometimes make you feel like you will be beat you to death but the airless ones ride pretty nice.

Cooper tire is in development for this concept for humvees.

That would be so cool . You could run a huge tire with out all the weight. could you imagine the cost?

They are expensive because you buy the rim also, then you can replace the tire by pressing it off later, with a huge press.

The 12 x 16.5 (width x rimsize) on the Case skidsteer loaders (bigger bobcat) weigh like 285lbs each.
