So I have been wanting to mount a compressor for a long time. My 16 year old Viar works fine, but is slow. I bought a Puma and removed the tank. Decided to mount it behind the drivers side rear wheel well, in the covered area of the cabinet. Tight, but doable. I used bulkhead fittings to go through the deck to an aluminum tank. I put in a 50 amp breaker and a 50 amp relay wired to a switch at the dash. The power came from bus blocks that were already installed in the rear. The tank is mounted where the spare tire was at, fairly high but not as high as I would like. I guess I will need to be careful backing up, but even if it gets hit, I carry a lot of parts to fix stuff or at least isolate the issue. I have always wanted to have the ability to easily level the truck when loaded, and also tilt it when on a severe side hill. The air bags have been in for many years, but had to be regulated by connecting to air valves one at a time. From Ridetech, I got the air solenoid block, gauge and switch set, and the wire harnesses. After running the lines, protecting them all from heat and wear with fuel hose and/or wire covers, I finally got the controls I wanted. I can't recommend it enough, although there is one down side. My friend that I offroad a lot with has a Land Rover that had a similar system that he removed. It needed service at least every 4 years and was expensive. He said that I am getting pretty close to having a Land Rover. Of course I don't want those British headaches, but my system is fairly inexpensive, easy to cap off or repair, and I do carry a spare air bag and air parts to fix it if I must.
