I am setting up in the next couple of months to do a full body paint job on my '40. I know I have to get some form of air dryer/filter in line as my compressor is a 60gal, but its not industrial grade and will be working to keep up - hot wet air. This is a one time affair, I can't see painting again for several years until my joints recover from all the sanding....

I would like to keep the additional costs down and was thinking of one of those 50-80$ in-line water seperators. I know they are not the best, so I was thinking of helping it by using a 5gal air pig that I already have in line. My shop is too crowded for the up down runs of copper tubing which seem to be one of the favored poor mans dryers. I could even drop the pig in a tub of ice water. System would be compressor air to pig ~3', pig to dryer (another 4-5' possibly hard line), connector and then to 50' hose, regulator, gun.

I should add, any preferred water seperators? was looking at 3/8" smc...

Thoughts?
