Hi All,
A friend has just bought a 2006 Sahara. Lovely car, not a lot of work required. It does have one issue. A rattling noise, coming from the area forward of the AC controls, when the key is switched to IGN, and then the same noise when the air cond temp is adjusted to the lowest setting. It sounds like a solenoid or relay chattering. We have determined it's the air blend servo (known in the parts manual as "SERVO SUB-ASSY, DAMPER, NO.2"). An AC diagnostic codes read shows code 11, and when we disconnected one of the wires to the servo motor, at the A/C control module (plug A57), and the noise stopped. That's great, but come winter he's not going to get any heating. Not a nice prospect in a Perth winter.
Anyway, the Toyota manual calls out a complete dash assembly removal, (includes radiator drain, steering column removal, and AC de-gas) to access the servo itself.
I'm wondering if anyone here has done this job and has an 'easier' way to access the servo?
I know the air blend servo on the LHD cars is on the front of the air box (as you look at it) and dead easy to access, but on the RHD, it's on the 'back' of the air box.
Here's hoping,
Chris.........
