Aftermarket exhaust opinions... I want some growl, not drone.

Unfortunately this is in Australia so you can't use the headers (due to RHS steering) - however had the Beaudesert Exhaust 3" system on my last LC. No drone at 100km/hr (~62Mph), and a very nice rumble.

Strewth - I might have to put this on the Lexy!

The Beaudesert sounds mint

Had a Magnaflow 12256 2.5” in/out welded today and the rear resonator chopped off.

I’m really happy with the deep V8 sound. No drone when cruising around ~45mph. Took it up to 65mph on the highway and couldn’t hear the exhaust over wind noise.

Give it a shot, worst case you hate the sound and install the resonator back on or go aftermarket.

You still happy with this setup? About to order the same muffler for my 2000 LC. Also going to chop the resinator.

It is louder now since I recently installed DT Headers. I also have steel bumpers/winch now as well so it drones while maintaining highway speed. I’m still happy though and no plans to change anything.

I would recommend installing the muffler first and if you still want more, chop the resonator off in a way that it can be easily welded back or a performance resonator installed.

Thanks. I got my muffler today and I am about to get it welded in. I plan to cut everything in a way that I can go back to stock if need be.

Had the muffler installed today. Not sure how satisfied with the install I am. I had planned to do it myself, but once I got under the vehicle and realized how frustrating it was going to be I decided to take it to a shop. I didn’t see it till it was done, it’s not quite how I would have done it, but it works. I’ve noticed water seeping from some of the weld seams already which I will weld up myself tomorrow. With the resonator installed I couldnt tell any differnece in sound. Once I removed the resonator the sound was much better. Its an 18” Magnaflow 12256.

I ran a Flowmaster 40 series muffler and no resonator for years and it was absolutely perfect. I had a local, old school muffler shop basically just make me a custom set up and it was great. No drone, nice growl, perfect on the highway. As Maryland rust made it fall off piece by piece, I made the mistake of wanting to "try something different"...so I went with the Revel Trailhart cat back exhaust. At first, it was great...but...holy heck after a couple months on the truck, the drone at 2k rpm became unbearable would vibrate your back teeth. I ended up having a muffler shop add a resonator and now its much better....so I would definitely avoid the Revel Trailhart that's for sure

Sounds like a less restrictive muffler wo the resonator is the way to go!

If you look at your local Facebook marketplace or tuner community, there’s a ton of great deals with used JASMA-certified mufflers short for Japan Automotive Sports Muffler Association.
A lot of good brands that matches the Toyota engine architecture and OEM exhaust note like Fujitsubo, Tanabe, TOMS, TRD, Kakimoto are a few that doesn’t create drone, but growl. JASMA-certified mufflers are within Japanese urban decibel standards so it doesn’t disrupt the community and will give you that bass-like sound to compliment your build.

I kinda wish I had gone with the Flowmaster. I just like that the Magnaflow was stainless.
