Hi everyone,

I’ve been researching this issue here on IH8MUD and have found several helpful threads related to ABS problems on the 100-series. However, a number of those threads either end without a clear resolution or don’t quite match my exact symptoms, so I wanted to post my situation in full and get some experienced input before replacing parts.

Vehicle:
  • 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser 100 (UZJ100)
  • Stock brake system
  • No recent electrical modifications

Symptoms

  • ABS, VSC, A-TRAC, and BRAKE lights are all on simultaneously
  • No warning chime when the lights came on (silent)
  • Normal braking works perfectly (even during a hard/panic stop on dry pavement)
  • No noticeable change in pedal feel during normal driving

Timeline

  • The warning lights came on 1–2 days BEFORE any recent brake work
  • Brake work performed later (pads/rotors), but lights were already on
  • Lights did not appear immediately after service

Diagnostics so far

  • Multiple generic OBD-II scanners (mine + mechanic’s)
    • Can read engine codes
    • Cannot communicate with ABS / VSC system
  • Mechanic is currently checking power and grounds at the ABS actuator
    • He was struggling with an incorrect wiring diagram initially, so I sourced a UZJ100 Electrical Wiring Diagram (EWD) (not Prado)
    • This is what I was able to find for a 2004 model 2004-UZJ100-EWD.pdf

Important clarifications

  • I did not hear any warning beep when the lights came on (from what I understand, this is normal and not diagnostic)
  • We are still confirming whether the ABS pump primes briefly at startup (1–3 second electric motor/whirr sound)

What I understand so far (please correct me if wrong)

  • Loss of ABS/VSC/A-TRAC together usually points to:
    • ABS actuator / accumulator assembly
    • OR power / ground / relay issue to the actuator
  • Wheel speed sensor faults typically:
    • Still allow ABS communication
    • Throw readable C-codes
  • Toyota does not service the ABS motor separately
    • The unit is serviced as a complete ABS actuator/accumulator assembly
  • Common part number discussed:
    • 44510-60050 (and supersessions 60051 / 60052)

Current plan

  1. Verify:
    • ABS fuses and relays
    • Power and ground at the actuator
  2. Get a Toyota-capable ABS scan (Techstream / Autel / Launch) to pull actual C-codes
  3. Only replace parts once diagnosis is confirmed

Questions for the group

  1. For those with 1998–2002 LC100s:
    • Did your ABS actuator failure present similarly?
  2. Is lack of ABS communication with generic scanners a common early sign?
  3. Any specific power/ground points that commonly fail on the 100-series?
  4. If the pump does prime at startup, does that meaningfully change the likelihood of actuator failure?
  5. Any rebuilt actuator sources you’ve had long-term success with?
I’m trying to avoid guessing and throwing parts at it.

Any insight from those who’ve been down this road would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance — this forum has been incredibly helpful in the past.

I dont see the A-Trac light on. When mine died this summer it was the ABS/Skid box in the drivers footwell that died. (TechStream counldnt talk to it making me think it had died.) Replacing it fixed it for me. VSC Trac is not the same as A-Trac.
Pic of my dash when the box died. But this was also a 2000 LX470 not a TLC.

Have you seen this thread?

Have you seen this thread?

No, I haven't and that is exactly what is wrong with my cruiser, the mechanic just told me, so I am going to study this thread and hopefully I can repair it myself. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!
