My wife is having twins and we already have 2 kids currently so I am looking to get out of the 4runner and into an LX soon. I just test drove this one at the dealer and it drove like new (as expected with 57k miles on it). My question is, looking at the car fax, 3 owners in this short number of miles makes me nervous. I am also wondering what target price should I ask for given the 3 owners. 42k seems about 2k high in my opinion.

The ownership periods would concern me as well. I bought a 3 years old/28k miles Certified 2013 in 2016 for 56500, so at that price point, was looking for a 1 owner. There might be nothing wrong, but while looking and considering two owner vehicles I steered clear of any auction vehicles or vehicles where the owner didn't want to keep it for more than a year or so. You'll have to consider what your resale value will be with a 4 owner vehicle.

Number of owners don’t really matter if the car itself checks out.
I recently bought my 2014 LX with 21K miles just yesterday turned 22k.
First owner sold it at 3k
Second sold it at 21k
The way I drive mine, weekends only... it probably will have much lower miles than average with 3 owners.
I paid $300 for inspection to Lexus Dealer and had Master tech inspect it for me. After it was done he showed me everything he found including underbody.
They also provided me details of system can with their fancy scanner. All checked out and I bought it from the seller.
Once I bought it I took care of all the small items including maintenance and FR Rotors + pads..

I'd proceed with caution. 3 owners in that short of miles is concerning. Might totally be legitimate, but it's also a flag that there's an underlying issue.

As it's largely been under manufacturer warranty, go to a Lexus dealership and pull the records. Look for any systemic issue or string of issues.

Also consider you'd be the 4th owner. How that might affect when you choose to sell.

Agree
Pay for pre-purchase inspection if you are buying it from anyone other than Lexus dealer.
Check Lexus drivers website... you can get all service history if it was done by Lexus dealer/s

It's that last owner that might be a question. 5 dealer visits in 9 months is a lot. And the brakes were checked/serviced at most of those. If you proceed (and I think you should), make sure the brakes are ok.
