Hey Folks,
I've been wondering about something I've noticed shifting from third gear to drive: If I'm in third gear and the selector is in third gear, the engine runs slightly faster than if it is in third gear and the transmission is in Drive.
I'm wondering what the reason for this is. Has anyone noticed this before? Could it mean than in Drive, the third gear is locked while it is unlocked (and slips a bit) when the selector is placed in third gear?
The truck came with a massive pintle-hook type hitch, so I'm wondering if maybe the transmission wasn't upgraded at some point to a locking third gear (hey, I can dream!).
Also, I've noticed that with this transmission, once it is in overdrive, it is almost impossible to get it to kickdown to 3rd gear pressing the gas pedal all the way down, unless I release the gas pedal for a little while first, or unless I downshift manually.
Any ideas?
Chris
