as a few of you guys know ateb has been tweeking my truck lately ,hand done power rod, custom turbo ,pump mods ,i/c ,and a few other things??? so i have come to the limit of the stock tranny it seems ,so i am trying to beef up my diesel tranny behind my 1hdt. i have a line on a beeffed up a442 gasser tranny ,so then i could spend a little extra on my diesel t/c and v/b ....So can you swap the diesel a442 full hydrolic t/c and v/b and put it into a a442 full hydrolic gasser tranny .or better yet same swap diesel t/c v/b into a electronically controlled a442 gasser trany . and if so how come nobody has done a 1hdt swap into the post 93 fzj80(electronic) and only swapped the t/c and v/b. cause if the electronic version is doable i would much rather spend my money on something i can lockup the t/c at slower speeds than just 4th gear (60km). i know i am terrible to try and follow so i hope i am making sence. thanks

talk to Wholesale Automatic Transmissions

he has a beefed up valve body that gives you lock up in 3rd (but what we really want is lockup in 2nd as well).

I think he has a replacement torque converter for the A442 as well that improves performance a lot. i think putting in the electro would be a PITA because of the controller wiring. but if you get it done let us know!

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought I remember seeing on wholesales site they have a kit for connecting an electric tranny to a mechanical truck.

I dont understand this well enough to know why I can't have a device that will allow me to lock up my full hydro a442f in all gears when I want to. And I know I can talk to wholesale auto, just don't understand how this lock up occurs in my trans and how it could be modified ( if possible) to be fully selectable across all gears? I assume we are diverting fluid through a solenoid in 4th to lock up at 60kmh now?

Aren't solenoid's electronic? :flipoff2: just face it, it's magic :p

Nope, there's no electronic solenoid in the A442 full hydro. That's the problem. It's an internal hydraulic lockup and while it might be possible to gizmo some sort of manual over-ride in it would require doing some significant hydraulic engineering on the valvebody. If anyone figures out a way to do it I'd love to sign up....

i have a tranny guy that will do whatever needs to be done (within his saftey perameters) but needs a little input (stiffer springs in the accumulaters or even stretching the springs) cannot believe with all the great tec support to be had for these landcruisers ,just how little is known (outside of the box) about these vehicles
