All over the internet and Ai still instent that diesel engines usually have codes and states that the ECU or EC 'module' of late 'jargon'. So right but I cannot see for the life of me any codes whatsoever = bore No 1 in our Toyota 2002 D4D KDJ type with it's lovely 1 KD FTV engine. I say lovely but that is only when it's running OK.... & what about the fault which is serious shown when it was too laste for us regarding Antony FourxFour on you tube australia... That guy is so experienced knowledgeable but he neglected to say there might be no codes on the early cutting edge Denso /Toyota engine. Or did I miss him saying that?????
I spoke to an excellent guy at Denso Coventry who is knowledgeable and I spoke to him just in time as I am at the end of my patience with this engine that will not rev at all. He said the coding is for trimming /accurate adjustment and I though that might well be..... Toyota in their wisdom the other day said bring it in and we'll put the codes in for you = £135 + They knew that vehicle so why did they know there were no codes to input?
As an engineer and due to being ancient with scant experience with the science of Diagnostics I sometimes find it a bit hard to absorb all these electronics that is essential in getting ones head round since the ECU was made.
In 2019 my wife said you are too old to tackle a missing fault... so the Toyota went to a so called specialist.... worst thing ever. They said they could not fix the fault. They said there was probably a hole in the piston..... I thought a hole in the piston is there when the ingnition is sequence not later on.
When I drove it past Inchcape I thought I must start somewhere so in I drove. They reported to me injector number 2 faulty definitely.
I reported that to the so called specialists & so picked the car up and drove it just about. It felt worse than when the experts got their hands on it. I got it in our back yard & contacted the suppliers of the one injector they put in.... The suppliers in Loughborough said it needed two injectors which was true as they showed me the report....... Incredible yes... nonesense yes...... There was a chap with expertise at Loughborough then but he retired. He said I think when you fit this new no 2 injector in with the three we've tested I think you will be OK.
He was right it was perfect but I rang & ythanked him for his help but told him, I'm glad I got my hands on our car because the so called specialist did not clean a molecule of carbon off the twin cams. No clearance was observed in the tappets.
No code was put in then so why did Denso stick an explanatory note all about the codes that must be put into the ECU/M in the packaging in the new set of injectors bought 2025.... ? I might get some flack about this post but if some of you folks working on the old 20 years + vehicles which the experts say they cannot even plug a diagnostic that they have into the OB2 connector because the vehicle was old ten years ago and they are not interested in such cars.
I learn a lot each time I get my hands dirty..... It is essential to do what I've done for donkey's years & that is keep an open mind on all things.
