The road deteriorates a bit in this spot. Still pretty wide but doesn't look to stable and it's a bit undercut. If you ever wanted to drive this road you may want to do it soon. Was a bit spooky in the 100.
We found a snowdrift to play in. I tried it first but only got about halfway so we decided to send Jeremy since he had no winch, decent recovery points or recovery gear but he did have 35's.
After several attempts he beat it down enough and finally got through. Here he is trying to pave it for Vince. You can see the tire tracks in the fore-ground where I was dragging Jeremy's truck trying to winch my fat 100 series through the drift.
Coming back Vince got stuck this time and we had to pull winch cable once again.
Once again Jeremy's 450 was just getting pulled forward so we resorted to manual labour.
That failed as well so we decided my fat 100 might be more useful as an anchor so Jeremy and I switched off. Just to be sure we strapped the 450 to the front of mine.
That did the trick.
Got out with enough daylight to setup camp. Gotta love this time of year. Here's Vince molesting some corn while Jeremy slowly slips into a coma.
Day two we headed back down to Pavillion and took the FSR road acroos the highway from the village. I forget the name of the road. It winds it's way up the hills and Parallels hwy 99 above Marble canyon. Nice detour. There was a fire in there a few months ago. Still smelled fresh.
Not too far along the highway we turned south on to Hat Creek FSR destined for some fire lookout tower Vince had heard about.
Beautiful valley!
Heading up the mountainside it started to snow lightly.
Visibility wasn't the greatest today but we were all having a great time anyway.
Oh look! More snow drifts. Lets send Jeremy again.
That one was fairly hard packed on one side and he made short work of it going in. Vince and I opted out of trying it since it was getting late and we had enough shovelling yesterday. I jumped in with Jeremy and then we all walked the last few 100 ft.
Doesn't look bad but it was slicker than whale snot.
Eventually the truck starting heading sideways.
After 50 or so attempts at going up and down and waiting for Jerem'ys clicking Birfs to explode, the 450 eventually slid precariously close to the dead tree stump.
An attempt was made to get it back on the road but proved to be impossible too.
So we found the largest dead tree we could find and used Jeremy's truck and a snatch block to try and crush Vince's Tacoma with it.
I wisely kept my 100 away from any of this.
Fortunately the tree held and with some lower tire pressure the 450 came right up the slope.
well there are a lot of great pics there......hint, hint.....and the story seems to be interesting and would be great if there was a more detailed, filled in, write up.....hint, hint......that you guys could send into a magazine maybe.....hint, hint..... if you knew an editor of one.......HINT, HINT.....!!!
