Hey all,

So I'm putting new A/C o-rings and converting to R134A in my old '88 4Runner 3.0, with factory a/c of course. And my dumb ass decides to pull the block (which I now know is called the suction valve) off the top of the compressor. It's that block held in with four allen keys where the lines hook up.

I had pulled these blocks off other Toyota compressors and and it was just simple o-rings; but this one is a long rubber gasket. Say about 3" long and 2" wide. It has two 45 degree angles at the corners instead of one 90. I know you all probably have no clue what I'm saying, but if anyone has pulled one apart on a 3.0 truck you'll probably know of which I speak.

Well, my guru at Toyota says it looks like it's not available separately but he's going to do some more checking and get back with me. A CarQuest has one that might be right and they've ordered it. Napa had no clue over the phone what I was talking about and AutoZone who knows.

My question is if any of you know the seal of which I speak have you had any success in getting a new one? Where from?

Thanks--

P.S. Yes I put on a new receiver dryer and yes I put in a few ounces of esther oil too for any who might be wondering.

P.P.S. Came up with nothing in a quick search...

I was told something simmalar a few weeks ago. Stealership here says the seals come together in one set, nothing available for individual sale (I think this is incorrect). Also miscelaneous small compressor parts were unavailable for order. I'm planning on asking American Toyota when I make another parts order.

I know what seal you're talking about, is it completely trashed?

No not trashed to the eye...but when system is filled, it leaks. Pretty much woke the sleeping dog. Just got off the line with my parts guy and he's still working on it. I'll try to post some pics with info to help others out if we get to the bottom of this.

But yes, seems silly that this would be such a mystery to figure out.

Update-

Ok, this "junction block" is actually called the A/C suction valve and to get the o-ring for it you have to buy the whole thing which is around $200 list from the dealer.

However, it's discontinued!

HAH...Car Quest got the wrong o-ring kit and it did not have the suction valve seal. BUT, the dude figured it out, and has it ordered...will update tomorrow with pictures.

one other option might be to contact a company that remanufactures/rebuilds A/C compressors and see if they can supply one or give you a lead on where to go

Call these guys, have had good luck with them having the right part.

Automotive Air Conditioning Parts & Equipment - ACKITS.COM

Good call...from the picture their kit looks like it too contains the suction valve gasket.

I got a print-out from Car Quest and they look to be getting the right part from the image. Will know tomorrow for sure when it's in. Compressor is back out and on the bench. Will update tomorrow with pictures.

Finished it last night. The Car Quest seal is right. Home PC is having monitor issues, will try to get pics up soon.

Update***********

Took it to my buddy's shop, they sucked it down, filled er up, and she's blowing ice cubes again. Not too bad for a truck with 225,000 miles on it that's twenty-one years old! I promise I will get the pics up here soon.
