Yes, and I have to say the great gentleman who was the local representative was a pleasure to work with - he was retired Navy and had tons of time on all sorts of waters including tons of time as a lake, river, and reservoir fisherman with the Porta-Bote and other aluminum boats. While we were looking he invited us over, pulled out three different Porta-Botes ( 10,12,14 ft), opened them all up for us, answered a thousand questions totally cheerfully and then offered to come over to help with setup when we got the boat. So far a great experience all around. Thanks!

BTW, gotta good deal - 100 off the boat, free oars and oarlocks, and alot off the "Porta-Dolly" which helps with taking the boat from truck to shore. This thing on top of the cruiser is gonna work great especially with the African Outback Rack I'm gonna get. I somehow convinced the wifey that the boat was for her and the rack was for me!!! :grinpimp:

Ohh, I forgot, no shipping either!

Seriously though thanks for all the advise!

having test ridden in gold boy's i can say i was impressed. at least as sturdy as a light tin boat and 100 times more versatile. It will hold 2 adults and 2 nine year olds on a lake pretty easily. the flotation foam along the sides also makes a great place to store flies...

Got pics? Sounds great!

This boat looks very interesting. Cool thread.

I don't get the floatplane pictures though. Looks like a canoe straped to the side to me. Sure doesn't look like the porta-bote.

Its Kenora. Cameron bay? That Hotel sign behind is the Pizza Hut now. Bayview Toyota is right behind. Hey you must be related to Don Brown, no?

Whow thats an old pic. If you see the sign behind the hotel, that is the gas station they tore down for the Toyota dealership.

Yup Uncle Don. He bought the Toyota dealership in the late eighties. Or mid. Cause my dad bought his first Toyota off him in 88(Four runner, V6).

So your pic is mid 80's.

main thing about that pic is that i can't see a tote a bote in it.

LOL I just noticed that too....... Lowenbrau just liked the picture. I thought it was kinda nice too :)

Been interested in the Porta-bote for a while. I went in saw them at a boat show about six months ago, and finally making the move to order one. The local rep has a 12' in stock, so picking it up tomorrow...will write a complete review!

Yer gonna luv it!!! Congrats!

No review yet - no buyie just yet....decisions decisions. I talked to the rep and he said the 12 foot is best all around, but I have been talking to him about the idea of hauling me, my wife, and two small children and camping gear and he said maybe the 14...which he does not have in stock. So right now, me thinkie. I hope to decide soon! :) Stay tuned!

You may run into issues with the O/B weight, (my 4 stroke Yamaha 9.9 high thrust kicker is about a 110 lbs), to much for me to lift on and off the PB.

I would certainly consider a 2 stroke OB for the 14'er PB.

Woke this morning thinking "Porta-bote"....
Looked in local Craigslist and found an ad today for twice used, 2006 model, 12 footer, 6hp Nissan 4 stroke outboard (55lbs), a folding trailer from Harbor Freight that is all wired up and licensed, the porta-dolly, sunshade, oars, life jackets, and a few other nick nacks. I couldn't believe it as they never come up for sale around here. I went and checked it out bought it tonight and pick it up in the morning!! Yipee!

Congrats man ;)

Have the same motor on my 12'er, but its a merc, both are are made by Tohatsu.
I have done 24kph with that ob on my 12' portabote. Which feels very fast in a 12' boat....

Just got it home today. Here it is, looking forward to its maiden voyage soon!
