99 LC questions

Some of these questions may seem kinda dumb but I've searched past posts and have ended up almost more confused and the dealership still hasn't gotten me my owners manual so here goes... I see there are some differences in 99 LC's...

I understand that I am full time 4WD but am wondering what some of the other options provide since I did a little 4wheeling last weekend...

1. My DIFF LOCK Button has off-push-RR option... Stays in off and I am yet to engage (Guess this is the Center Diff LOCK); I probably should have engaged this last weekend but did fine without it. If this is a Center Diff LOCK then what is RR?

2. I notice acceleration increases with PWR engaged but when would 2nd be used?

3. The button on the dash that shows the x where the drivetrain would be and front wheels turning right... What is this for?

4. Is the H N L shifter just used like normal high and low range 4wd?

Sorry if these questions seem stupid but I don't want to damage anything on this truck and am very interested in what it is capable of... I can already tell this is the best off road vehicle I've owned to date...

Yes, it is full time 4WD.
In "normal" operation, you work with 3 open diferentials: Front, center and rear.
1. This button operates your rear locking differential, when you push and put in RR your rear diff is "Locked"
2. The PWR button changes your transmission settings, basically it lets the engine rev higher before changing gears, it also downshifts "earlier" when you accelerate. 2nd button is used in low traction to start in 2nd gear instead of first to avoid tire spinning.
3. The button with the X is your Center Diff Lock, when pushed, it locks Center Diff.

5. If there is a RR diff lock and a center diff lock, shouldn't I have a front diff lock or would that not apply due to IFS (independent front suspension)?

Note that the Rear Diff Lock will not operate unless the Center Diff Lock is locked.

And no.....they did not come with a front locking diff. Plus, your front diff is on the weak side if you four-wheel. (98-99) If you wheel you should ARB lock the front.

Additional advice:
- The rear diff lock only works in low gear and afeer the center diff is locked.
- DON'T engage or disengage the RDL if a rear wheel is spinning. I.e. only do it while stepping on the brakes.
- DON't drive with the RDL engaged at more the 8 km/h (5 mph) or while turning.
- Unlock it ASPA whne not needed anymore.

Just to gather more of the available info into this thread for you:

The CDL (central diff lock) engages automatically when you engage low range. (This can be changed by doing the "pin-7 mod". Recommended for manouvering in tight places with good traction. (do a search))

The front diff is prone to break particularly when reversing, and also when you suddenly regain traction, so go easy.

To clarify on use:
Change to low range only at stand-still. (Neutral and brakes applied)
Change to high range at no more than walking speed.
Diff locks should be engaged only while wheels have the same speed. I.e. if stuck, apply brakes or neutral.

uHu -- I just hit 90K miles. Looking into taking care of the 90K maintenance a very soon. I was looking into what portions of the 90K I can do myself.
