Hi all,
I have followed the Toyota spec of 5W-30 (not a diesel) and have been running full synthetic since 80k. Now that I'm at 300KI am thinking of going to 15W-40 Rotella? As it is using some oil between changes.. Thoughts..?

Wow, that’s a lot of miles you’ve accumulated in your ownership. Some people in warm climates claim that 15-40 is the way to go.
So perhaps your location is relevant. My hunch is that the FZ engine doesn’t really care much one way or the other. Mine is at 208K, I plan to continue with the 5-30.

Is the Rotella a diesel engine spec oil?

I've been running Rotella T6 full synth 10w/30 diesel oil in my gas F150.
It's mileage is getting up a bit, and the engine type is known to have oiling issues, with oil clogging valve train and cam phasers.
So, I've been running diesel oil due to higher detergent content with my thoughts being thst the diesel spec oil will provide equally good lubrication, but it's better at cleaning gunky deposits out.

It's due for an oil change in the next couple of weeks, and i have Blackstone Labs sampling kit sitting here ready to send an oil sample in for analysis.
Very interested to see the report

I like your idea. I used to run 15-40 rotella in my 80 at 250k when I pulled it for the rebuild it was super clean inside like no build up at all. The couple other I have rebuilt I could tell which ones ran diesel motor oil because they where so clean inside compared to conventional oil. I don’t see any downside to it and would recommend. First pic is conventional oil 5-30 with 275k
Second pic is 260k with delo 15-40
