Pulled the 1fz on the Wife's LX (160k on it southern rig purchased in St. Louis in 13/14 but Carfax shows it was in TX for a lot of its life) for a head gasket job.

Ever since doing a valve cover job for the pesky valve cover oil leak many many miles ago, its suffered the notorious tick, or what seemed to be a tick. During the valve cover gasket of course the damn spark plug tube grommets shattered upon removal of the cover, i assumed i had gotten all of it out but i think some fell down into the timing cover valley, i wasn't sure till just today as i was tearing it down here is what i found. BTW this has be like this for years and still keep ticking away, it was starting to sound like a tractor between the exhaust y pipe utterly cracking and rusting away and the obnoxious tick tick tick.

I did all sorts of research and digging on Ih8 to address the tick and assumed it was the power steering gear in the previous years, check valve clearances, check the chain guides the best i could without taking the cover off thought possibly it could be a rod knock but never dug this far into the motor till i pulled it.

I will keep you all posted when i dig deeper! Bearings are the next question with finding this crap in the pan.
Head gasket failure most likely from the PHH . Didn't quite catch it in time. We usually park over a bed of pink quartz rock and this had many many oil leaks, coolant wasn't seen other than from the weep hole on the water pump when that was toast. Poor maintenance on my part. Its been a great dependable rig all around taking lots of abuse thru the years. It deserves to be freshened up.

All new Toyota headgasket kit
OSK timing Chain set from Aussie, since noone carried in stock in the States. What a nightmare its been with the Tariffs (be warned on the duty taxes)
Head bolts up for debate between new Toyota or Arp with them being a bit cheaper Let me know your guys thoughts on head bolts, i have yet to check spec on the old ones
New Denso Rad, was replace with Aisin waterpump
Needs need new A/c compressor and condenser for South Dakota heat
Magnaflow downpipe/cat combo in the mail
Front and Rear Main will be done
Oil pump reseal if it looks ok or a new timing cover will be ordered, I believe it comes with the oil pump??
Ill replace all the vacuum lines on intake side during reassemble
PS pump and gear were replace with OE Toy yoyo 2 years ago but will be checking the other gears

Lots of cleaning with all the leaks over the years

Let me hear your Thoughts!
Thanks

My family and i are no strangers to the 40/55/60 and 80 series. My dad has had 2 100's ( one TRD S/C) and has a LX570 currently. We all drive Tundra's 1st 2nd and i have a 3rd gen currently. We don't buy anything but Toyo/Lexus.
