A couple of weeks ago on the way back from a road trip in Montana, my Troopy stalled at a stop light right as I got off the freeway. It started right back up but then stalled again at another stoplight. I stopped at an auto parts place just in case I needed something. I opened the hood and didn't see anything obvious. I figured since I had been driving 70-75 mph all day so far maybe going through all that fuel maybe the carb had built up some gunk in it so I figured I would get some carb cleaner and give it a good cleaning. Jumped back on the road, no problems all the way back to Denver with no stalling. Driving around town and to work has been okay but still stalls once or twice every now and then. Always fires right back up...
Things I know:
New OEM fuel filter (a month ago)
Rotor/Rotor Cap/plugs (couple of months ago)
No hesitation on acceleration
Starts super easy every time
Idles smooth/even off road in bumpy conditions
No vacuum leaks
Clean pampered truck..

Things I am wondering:
Idle cutoff solenoid
Fuel pump
Ignition control Module
AC idle up diaphragm leaking (doesn't stall when AC is on)

Given the group on this forum I am confident you guys can throw some advice at me. What do you think?

How’s the condition of your charcoal canister? Mine had a stuck check valve and while I wasn’t stalling, when I resolved the issue with a new canister it does idle smoother.

Cheers, James

You could be on to something. I have one broken evap canister in the front by the steering gear box and another on the left fender. The Outer Vent Control Valve was capped by PO....

Hello,

The 1FZ-F carburetor is sensitive to gunk buildup.

Open the top and spray some carb cleaner. Let it idle for a few minutes and apply again. Repeat every fortnight.

Hope this helps.

I was having similar problem. on 98 75 pick up. Did filter and pump, no improvement. Instead of of chasing parts on the carb, you can get a brand new Toyota carb for around $950. Thing runs unbelievably good.

Is it possible you might just be suffering from a tank of bad gas? Maybe run the tank down to 1/8 and fill from a station you’re familiar with that has high turnover.
