I got a 94 4runner v6 thats missing the engine and trans. my friend has a wrecked 89 pickup with v6 and auto trans. both vehicles are 2wd auto. will the engine from the 89 swap in the 94 without any problems, or is the intake and wiring different? I need a new harness for the 4runner anyhow as its been cut, didnt' know if I could use the harness from the pickup also or not.
car-part.com showed 89-92 for the truck and 90-95 for the 4runner engines, just wondering what might be different. thanks.

I've heard that the earlier 3.slows may have been a little different (wiring/EFI maybe, IIRC), but nothing to prevent you from using it. I don't know how much I believe it, frankly, but just putting it out there.

I'd jump on that engine, as I can tell you I was on the road for 10 hours yesterday to buy the same engine (for my '93 Runner), as every other motor closer was $1000 used, with not a lot of verifiable info/history on them. There's a reason that engine was missing from your Runner, and it's probably installed in an extra-cab 4x4 PU. BTW, you'll be using almost every inch of that open space under your hood, I promise you; that engine's big!

As for the harness, the same body/power train is used in '89-'94 PUs, and I believe it's '90-'95 for the 4Runners, so I think it'd be OK, but definitely get a more professional opinion before relying on this info to make the deal!

Here's a great link from the FAQ...I think you're fine.

IIRC, the heads are different (one driled and taped hole) definetly go with the 14mm :) head bolt its way better than the 13(?)mm that started the recall.

The old heads are made for the spring type tensoner and the newer is for the hydro, just use the spring. I did'nt want to but hey, cant win'em all.

Then you must use the 94's upper intake and every other thing from the 94.

The 89's only had 457 vac lines.

.............................................and the 94's only had a million  &

oh!! and the knock sensor will have a different plug so remove the lower intake, do not splice!

Oh! Oh! And something I wish I knew BEFORE my instal, the crank bolt holes for the flex/ flywheel go ALL THE WAY THROUGH coat the bolts with something (the name escapes me rightnow) or you WILL think you have a rear main leak 10 minutes after all that work.

And if you have the means I would HIGHLY recommend a header install while the engine is out, I would NOT attempt it engine in.

P.s I got a 133k Trans/T.C
