Hi all, its the new kid here. Are there any documented conversions in a 2nd gen 4runner. The old 3.0 is a little low on power, and a little high on miles, about 190,000. I have herd many times that the 3.0 and 3,4 are interchangable, same bolt pattern? This 4runner is a 5sp and 4wd. She has some rust on her, but the truck is very salvagable. Lots of good metal left.

I would like to swap in a 3.4 V6 with a supercharger on it, anyone ever done it?
I would like to know about wiring espically and the computer.

thanks for any help, -nate-

I have done that swap, 2 times now! It is an easy swap if you have a manuel transmission, autos are more difficult. Offroadsolutions sells all the parts to make the swap a "no brainer". His wiring harnesses make the engine a "plug and play" setup. I don't bother making my own harness, the ORS harness is affordable and comes with excelent customer support.

On a side note my supercharged 4runner does a 15.5 in the quarter mile on the standard pulley, this is at 5280ft. Fuel mods should be done this summer so I expect a better time.

You do know the 3.4 block is the same except bored more than the 3.0?...hmm...fatkid, hows the mpg? Did you swap before the lift and tire, or hows the wifes mpg? A.T? How hard if you know is it to swap (2gen) A.T 2 5sp

The 90 4runner was originally a auto, the swap was as simple as finding the transmission, crossmember, rear drive shaft(different lenght), clutch bracket and hydrolics. Then it is just a matter of parts install, most of the holes are there.

The blocks are similar but not identical, the casting lines and block webbing is different. But they are close.

The Wifes 4runner is getting 23mpg, mine gets around 19-20 corrected.

THX, fatkid!!!!
NO ONE can tell me thats not the best performance mod for V6, unless, they don't know how to buy parts, and I aint telln' em'.

Swap is in order for me.

First reports on this swap (1-2) years ago in magazines said a 2" body lift was needed for hood to clear 3.4L's upper intake.

I, IMO, Friggn hate body lifts. So it was out.

Cheap, (lots)power and way better MPG!

(I LOVE) my 94 4R 3.0 AT 4:56 gets............8.5 MPG

got a vac. loose some where

Umm yea, My charged 4runner has a hole in the hood, about 12" by 20". A body lift is not needed if you are ok with cutting the hood. My wife's 4runner didn't need a hole but did rub a little
