Would you consider taking this on?

1993 Toyota Pickup 2.4L. 2wd
The engine overheats and we replace the radiator hoses and thermostate so the only thing i can think is wrong is a blown head gasket and just want it out of my yard (runs rough)

I could get this for $300 or so. A rebuild kit looks to be $255 (including all gaskets). However, what is the liklihood (I know you can't really tell over the internet) that the head needs to be replaced? Basically, it would be worth it to me to score a cheap beater/DD if I could get the truck running for under $800 (including trailer rental cost). Thoughts?

Edit: Something tells me that I'd be better off just forking over $1,000 or so for a turn-key vehicle.

It *might* be worth it. Decent, new heads can be found here: Toyota Heads

How many miles? What's the overall condition? If you have to start going through everything else- tranny, suspension, rear axle- depends.

Thanks for the link. Not sure on the mileage. I left a message and asked about that and the condition (no pictures in the ad). that may or may not be a bad thing (some people aren't internet/html savvy).

Yeah....Something tellls me that I'd be better off paying $1,000-1,200 for a late 80's rig in good shape than taking on a project vehicle. It may be something minor (as toy4xfun said), or something more serious.

it might not even be a blown head gasket, it could be a bad clutch on the fan!
