I have a 1989 Toyota pickup. 4WD. 3.0 V6

Truck runs great other than when I have been running down the road for a bit. Then when I let off, downshift and start to go through the gears it misses. Misses hard 3-5 times then smooths out and runs fine. I have 205K on the truck and baby it around. I can really baby it and it will sometimes not do it. When I go to take off after running at speeds then going back through the gears and don't go REAL easy it does this. Seems the easier I ake off the less it does it.

Also when starting off when I haven't been up to speeds [even though the truck is fully warmed up] it doesn't seem to do this as bad.

Anyone have an idea what to check?

Thanks in advance.

Greg

Stole a beautiful 88 ex cab V6 4WD one time b/c it was missing and the guy didn't want to have to pay the money to get it fixed...

$650. almost pristine condition.

Came home pulled the plugs and wires and fixed it.

x2 on the tune up 1st. If it persists, call us back. We can root out any common problems then.

sounds like the timing is off but im not too good with toyota motors. id try replacing the plugs and wires first before you get into timing stuff

sorry to steal a thread but i am having similiar problems. i sank my truck and after it doesnt run right. it has a weird sputter, not a miss per say. like someone is periodically putting there hand over the intake and then right after it takes off again. sometimes it causes the truck to jump several times and then smooth out

i changed the cap and rotor and plugs. cleaned the intake several times, changed the oil as soon as i got home, changed the fuel filter. it has been doing this for several months. oh and i did the unplug one spark plug at a time thing and that made a difference everytime

coil or igniter, Nick?

which is more likely?

Ill change the wires and cap and rotor. Just strange that it does it after it is up to speeds and not really any other time..

Had a timing belt, idlers, and pulley installed less than 5K ago.

?

yeah it got wet, i had water every where. and unfortunatelly tried to start it before cleaning everything...

It would miss, dead miss, acted like one cylinder just completely dead. Only did it after running at speed fr a while. Driving around town, stop and go, it didn't do it.

Bought some wires. was going to put wires, cap & rotor and maybe plugs. I just put thee plugs in a 6-8k miles ago. They are CHEAP motorcraft plugs although.

Just filled it up with 93 one and day and it quit. I spend more on gas but it runs better.
