Well I've been busting my but turning a $500.00 86 Runner 5spd DLX into a DD. I rebuilt the 22RE with engbldr parts including big valve head and RV cam as well as LCE header back exhaust. New front end rod ends, pitman arm, and idle arm, new clutch, clutch MC and slave, new starter and fuel pump as well as rebuilt the EFI engine harness and injectors. Just ordered... Brake M/C rear wheel cylinders and shoes, steering box, seat covers, shifter boot and new tires on 16" taco rims (BFG 265/70 x 16). I will post pics. The truck was originally from TX so the rust is very small, the worst is over the DS rear fender. The POs did a good job on hacking things up so I have a Bunch of little things to fix. The big stuff will be body work and transmission work, it leaks and a new rear seal did not fix it.

Sounds awesome. I've been DDing my FJ60 and my 85 carb'd pickup an hour each way since September.

I'd love a 1st gen 4runner. Talk about luxury having EFI and overdrive. I forgot what that's like.

Haha. I've had my share of FJ 40s, I do love them but for me they are not practical at all, I grew up with a first gen 4runner, that thing took me all over the place. The only bad thing about it is all the little things that need to be replaced due to age and poor maintenance. Not sure luxury, I guess compared to a 60 and 85 pickup it is. The EFI is old school with batch fired injectors and an air flow meter, but I'll take that over a carb all day, the five speed is nice, so is working heat, A/C, intermittent wipers and a radio I can hear.

Just got a new master cylinder and rear wheel cylinders, Aisin parts from autohausAZ, all parts for about $160.00. Waiting on Seat covers, steering box, late 22RE upper intake and throttle body, shift boot and knob. Other things that probably need attention- wheel bearings, upper and lower ball joints, rear 3rd member, hubs, and transmission. The body is in real good shape, small amount of rust on drivers right rear, I'm going to cut the rust out and repair this spring.
