Hi all, Im in the market for buying a 1st gen 4runner. Anything i should look out for with the automatic transmission? I have an 85 5speed but don't know much about the automatic ones. Is is normal for it to clunk(or hard shift) when shifting from park to drive? I know my old 1980 celica used to do that when it got older.
This truck has 200k on it. --Thanks

Check for engine and tranny codes. It could be a bad solenoid in the tranny (not hard to replace)

This can be lots of things, like a worn U-Joint or a loose spring U-Bolt, it could be high idle, or as noted a bad solenoid, or even a tranny full of dirty fluid needing replacement and a filter change. It could be a bad transmission/xfer case mount.
