Does anyone have the factory wiring diagram for an '85 2WD PU? Specifically the radio wiring. I'm trying to upgrade the stereo in my wife's truck and am having trouble. I got the later Toyota radio to power on, but no output to the speakers. I thought the right speaker was a pair of light green and light green with a red stripe. I suppose the new radio might not be working.

TIA

I don't know if the "they are all the same" belief carries from an 85 2WD to an 89 4Runner but................

My book shows the speaker wires as Right: light green and blue and Left: pink and violet.

**** per post below, my colors are not correct for your rig and it looks like you have it right ****

Have you thrown a meter on the suspect wires? I'm not sure what kind of current a speaker wire puts out but if it is completely dead it may show that.

My second thought would be to ask Roger Brown as he has an 85.

Good luck

This is from the 85 Truck and 4R FSM. Hope it helps. Looks like what you're describing, Chris.

Thanks Dave! That's it. Does polarity matter on the speakers? I can't imagine the crappy old stock speakers in this thing wouldn't work with this newer Toyota stereo. Is there any way to test output to the speakers? I hooked up the LG/LG-R wires to the "right front" pair coming out of the reverse harness plug and the LG-Y/LG-B wires to the "left front". Nothing. I know the speakers work because I spliced the original harness plug back in and they worked fine. There's a (dark green) G-R wire going into the plug I couldn't account for. I'm replacing the radio because it's an old-style analog tuner that drifts.

Any ideas?

the polarity makes the speaker either 'punch' outward, or inward.

you want it to 'punch' outwards.
temporaly connect it, and watch it.

i just got a nice set of speakers and a Eclipse radio for $170. most ive ever put into a radio. but well worth it.

Sounds like you're unsure of the "new" radio. I know some of them require two power source wires, etc. Perhaps something's missing there. Don't think polarity matters much at the speakers. I would think you'd hear something either way. I'd think you'd want to check to see if theres output from the speaker wires on the "new" radio with a tester.

I put a volt meter on the "new" output wires and detected nothing. Maybe the radio is no good. :frown: Like I said, I didn't see the G-R wire on the diagram.
