I'm looking at a 85 Jimmy with a 350 in it and trying to figure out which transmission is in it. I know its a auto with OD. Any ideas or ways to tell what it is by markings or measurements ? Thanks and what do you think its worth. I want the motor and tranny if its a 700 r 4 for a 40 project.

if it has od it is a an early 700r4. the first ones did have some issues which were resolved in the later ones. i would research it a little more. i had a 85 blazer and the 700 fried itself after a 100 miles hooked up to a fresh 350/ about 300 hp. put in a th350 and was alot happier and no more tranny issues. until i was 4 wheeling in cape cod and got stuck in the sand close to the beach, could not get out in time, full moon, water comes up very high, no more truck, total wreck. boo hoo. very sad. i will never 4 wheel anywhere near the beach again, i am still very traumatized 12 yrs later. still wakes me up in cold sweat in middle of the night. talking about it helps me on the road to recovery. ha ha ha, damn it
The 700r4 is a super good tranny if you do all the updates a pro re-builder would do. They have overdrive and they will stand up to power if rebuild right. Just my .02.
