Hello everyone, I'm new but have been lurking around here off and on for a couple of years. I have two rigs, a 96 landcruiser with lockers and recently purchased 85 mini 4x4 truck DX , 22re, 340h auto trans. power steering, extra cab 140,000 miles 30,000 on the engine. I have a FSM for both rigs.
Does anyone know where the the data link terminals TT and E are at on said truck.

transmision shifting to early 340H. FSM for an 85 truck-4runner does'nt even mention that transmision. I have been looking at info from later model trucks, seems to be more acuruat. I have found a few things that might help. one being the wire leading to the tip of the water temp sensor not being attacted to anything, after reserching I beleive it should be attached to a common ground with a wire leading to the TPS and one too the CPU if i'm reading the later modle wireing diagram correctly. I also found a square looking plug identical to the plug used to test the fuel pump. this plug and the loose wire are both between the plenium and the block, in between two injectors. Thank you for your input DavidW, I would apreciate any advice I could get, I have spent many hours on this problem.

I will explain the situation in more detail. the trans doesn't like to stay in third gear at highway speeds, it goes automaticly to overdrive even with the OD button switched to off, on steep hills at highway speed it tries to stay in OD until RPM's drop to about 1,700 then it drops to 2nd gear. I did a maual shift test ( unpluged the selinoid plug) it performed as it should L=1st. gear, 2nd=3rd. gear, drive=OD according to my research that means its eather electrical or mechanical control problem. I have already replaced the TPS thinking that was the problem (wrong). tested the speed sensor at the trans it's fine. I will be working on it this afternoon after work hopefully I have found the prob.

I'm at work right now so I can't look at anything, but could it be just a bad solenoid?

ok here is a pic of the supplement manual.

in case you want to find one.

here is the page with your diagnostic connector, and also where to read the code.

and here are a list of codes.

DavidW Yes I have considered it might be no. 2 solenoid , trying to eliminate other posabilities first. do you have a rig with auto trans. perhaps thats what you ment when you said you would look after work. I realy apreciate the feedback.

toy4xfun thanks for the info

I'm still looking for help. On my 85 22re 340H auto trans, there is a water temp. switch right under the temp sensor for the temp guage. It has a small yellow wire with green strip hanging off it, If anyone has the same sensore and switch they could try and tell me where the wire is suppose to go. This switch and sensor are on the passanger side if the block between the FI and the head between two fuel injectors.

One temp sensor runs the gauge and one goes to the computer if I remember correctly. There is also a cold start injector finding switch in that area. Um not able to look anything up at the moment.

yes there are several. The one I'm talking about is called a temp switch, It is very hard to see. It is directly underneath the temp sensor for the guage, it is very hard to see, if you look between the plenium-Fi and the block the gauge ensor sticks uo towards the top of the engine and the temp switch stichs strait out from the side of the engine underneith it.

My theory is that the wire broke off just inside of a wraped wiring harness. If I could get a lead on that I could find it and reconnect. i do believe it does lead to the EFI ECU even though the FSM for an 85 says this thermal switch is for the overdrive circit, but they are talking about the simple elec. circit of a A43D auto trans. The supplement FSM for A340H trans that year dont show the water thermo switch intigrated into that circit. I will be looking at the EFI ECU today to see if there is a small yellow wire with a green stripe leading into it.
