Well just found out that my head is cracked. What is the best course of action....repair, replace, etc? I'm sure there are other variables to consider as well....heck maybe somebody has a good one just laying around?

TIA!

Thanks. I'm not sure what the best course of action is at this point. Yeah, a Cummins 4BT or 5.3 Vortec would be lovely.

Of course finding a good head and slapping it back together and having it just work would be perfect. I need to dig back thru some old emails because I was talking to a guy with a parts cruiser for sale in KCMO....of course who knows if that head would be worth a cr@p. Anyone pull a 2F recently?

I have a head off a 84. Purchased it as a "worse case" for when I pulled the head off a FJ60 I had in the yard. Turned out the one I took off was not cracked, so I have this one. It came off a running engine. I like beer....

This sounds very promising. What kind of beer do you like?:D

I've got a 3F head on the floor of the garage you can have. I have no idea the condition.

Mike

Is the 3F head a straight bolt up in this case too? Or well I guess it would be right, since isn't that part of the whole building a "2FE" deal?

You guys are awesome!

Head

Where are you located? I'm in Parkville.

Nick, let me know if the head checks out ok. I will refrain from drinking the Boulevards, till I hear from you.

Haha, thanks Brian! It was great to meet you last night. I can't wait to see the 40 project underway too.

Its no big deal on the beer. Either way, one or the other of us got a hell of a bargain.

I'm dropping if off this evening to get checked.

I'll keep everyone posted.

:beer::beer:

Still don't know. The machine shop was a little backed up. Hopefully I'll know more this afternoon.

RESULTS!!!! And another question....

Okay, got the report:

I win! Though Brian got a very nice parting (part?) gift for his participation (actually, 24 parting gifts in individual brown bottles!). The head checked out, and now has the Oil Galley Plug fixed as well....I was going to do it, but the shop offered to do it for 10 bucks....done deal!

I do have another decision to make at this time as well. The air injection rail/manifold (whatever you call it) has some holes rusted thru it, and got a little mangled up in disassembly from the head, so I think that now may be the time to desmog as well. Especially since I also happen to have a power steering leak that I can live with, but should inevitably kill the smog pump.

Thoughts?

Cool, I will drink all 24 soon as possible.... glad the head checked out. Did you have them do valves and such, or just check it out?

As for desmog, I am more of a smog guy than desmog. If everything else in the system works, why not let it work as designed. You could get an air rail in the MUD for sale section or one of the vendors on MUD.

Most of my junk is desmogged, but if I had a good running 2F, and it was smogged, I would keep it all original. Just my .02cents.

Sorry for the delay in giving an update. I was out of town for about 10 days racing sailboats in Florida....I know, pretty rough. :D

Anyway, I was going to put it back together this weekend, but the shop was needed, so it is next weekend's project.

I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks for the lead on the air rail/manifold thingy.
