Just found a 83 PU for sale that has no spark. I am betting its the igniter as the owner has several coils that have not helped.
I have a 87 FJ60 igniter, would/could the FJ60 igniter work?

Any ideas on how to test/check out the engine, trans and transfer case without the motor running? The PU is in the neighborhood so I can jack it up to test things.

Hi,
During the build of my 80' pickup, the ignitor was found to be bad, so I switched to GM ignition. Very easy and reliable, also much cheaper(about 45 bucks with all new parts). I could not even find another ignitor where I live(N central AR).You can test for power at the coil/ ignitor. On the trans/xfer, dont really worry too much about the transfer case. They're pretty durable. Just shift it in and out of it's ranges and if it feels ok I wouldn't worry. The trans on the other hand I would do the same thing, but keep in mind you can't verify the condition of the synchros without driving it. Bad bearings in both gearboxes can't be heard unless driving of course. The trans shifter in most cases can be tightened up with a new seat bushing. If the FJ60 ignitor has the same plugins/ part no. on it you could try it but I doubt they do. good luck
Paul :)
