I'm getting ready to upgrade my pop-up trailer axle to a 3500# and plan on running the 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern, so I can run 80 series wheels.

I know a few of you guys are pulling trailers with 80 wheels. How did you get your wheels to mount to the trailer hub? Special hub kit, or certain lug nuts...

Maybe Dave (adventure duo) can chime in, since that new tear drop runs a 3500# axles with 80 wheels.:hhmm:

PO did it on my CDN M101. He changed the hubs to the 6 bolt pattern. I think they are standard Dexter 10" hubs. Should not be a problem for you.

My new trailer axle has the 6 on 5.5 studs but the thread is 1/2 20 which is different from the vehicle OEM. I just bought a set of the right lug nuts from Pep Boys.

Most Dexter axles are by factory 6 on 5.5, just like Marcus has pointed out. Just buy the correct nuts and you're done. On our Horizon it came used with a Jeep lug pattern so we used wheel adapters, had zero problems. The other way to do it at the same price and a bit more added strength would have been to swap out the entire hub assembly. On the new trailer it came with the correct bolt pattern.

Thanks guys...good to hear. I thought that was the case.....6 on 5.5 with pep-boys lug nuts.

I will start looking for 2 extra 80 wheels...:D

Let me know if you want to run 255/85/16's. That's what's on my trailer now and I want to move down to the same 285/75/16's that are on the cruiser.

Thanks for the offer Brent, but I will probably stay with 285/70/16 myself.
