I just recently bought a 1991 80 series and am unfamiliar with overboosting, is it bad for my engine? Is it something I can do on a daily basis? Is it something that shouldn't even be happening?

It has a boost gauge and it starts overboosting at about 15 psi and I've had it up to 20. Any help is appreciated!

Forgot to mention it does have an aftermarket intercooler

It's probably been hopped up. If it's still running the stock turbo it won't be particularly happy but you won't hurt the engine (presume a 1HDT) with 20 pounds of boost. A diesel runs cool when it's lean.
