Are the L/R side mirrors of an HDJ81 exactly the same as the US-specs 80s?

Reason for asking is I'm interested in getting this item from Performance Products:
http://www.performanceproducts4trucks.com/productpage.aspx?pid=104559&name=Panomirrors.

Any feedback from those who have bought/applied this item?

My LC80 was originally a RHD. But converted to LHD. Not sure if the mirrors are symetric in design or whether Toyota designed mirrors specific to RHD or LHD. With my converted rig, I'm unable to see farther on my left side mirror as compared to the right side mirror. I have tried all possible adjustments but I can just barely see vehicles on the left lane. I see about 90% of the LC's left body panels instead.

As such, when I saw this item online, am thinking this would solve my left-side mirror problem. But I would like to be sure that this item will fit my HDJ81 before ordering.

Hope somebody can help.

Your LHD 80s same as U.S side mirror no problem, back couple years ago I was going to get these JDM wide angle side mirror and also self dimming,it eliminate dangerous glare from rear approaching headlights. It looks like the riced out honda civic but Mercedes-Benz, Bimmers had these OEM built-in light blue side mirror self dimming.

Now for U.S model to convert side mirror from LHD to RHD. The exterior shape of the mirror glass is the same between our 80s and theirs, no problem fitting it. The only thing that I would be concerned about is that our passenger side mirrors are a different shape than our driver's side mirrors -- this is what allows you the wider view in the passenger side mirror (hence the "objects in the mirror are closer than they appear" message on the mirror)... In Japan, since they're right-hand-drive, the mirrors are reversed (know what I mean?). You'll have the objects-are-closer-than-they-appear mirror on the drivers side and not the passenger side.

Just my rambling thoughts... Good Luck.

And you sig line..few years ago somebody mentioned to me it's illegal in PI to convert RHD vehicle to LHD.

JDM mirrors are NOT the same as U.S. or local LC80 LHD mirrors. JDM has more wires and will not open out enough for a Left Hand Drive Driver on either side. The body casing itself is biased against it.

You can fix this by removing the mirrors, putting in a couple of washers and replaceing the screws with longer ones. The effect is that the mirror sits further out and will now be able to swing out more before the body casing blocks it. 2 washers should be enough. You'll need a man with patience and a delicate touch. Fitting the mirrors back in is a job and a half.

Althought the mirror (the reflecting part) and the mirror housing are identical, th mirror arms of the RHD and LHD mirrors are NOT the same. This allows the LHD and RHD mirror housings to have different angles on them. For example, on the US LHD model, the passenger side (right) mirror has a smaller angle (<90 degree to the body) when compared to the driver's side. On a RHD model, the passenger side (left) has a smaller angle when compare to the driver's side.

I based all this from comparing a set of JDM electric mirrors I bought from Mot to my OEM US LHD mirrors.

.... putting in a couple of washers and replaceing the screws with longer ones. ....

Thanks for all your input. - you've just described the root cause of my problem.

For the mid-term and "elegant" fix- will the Panomirrors work? If I get the LHD version of Panomirror and put it on my LHD mirror, will it resolved the issue? Or because of the design of the JDM mirror casing, there is no difference?

Kalawang - For the fix that you described, where do I put the washers? I may be able to do this myself since I have done already the Shake Side Mirror Fix: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=83177 on my RHD. I'm familiar already with dismantling the mirrors.

Am I supposed to put the washers behind the 4 screws I circled in the attached pic? Would this impact the power retraction function?

Have you done this on your JDM? I maybe calling you later for the details.

I'm watching this hoping to get reviews on the new glass. Will these be a replacement for the OEM glass, or do they simply adhere to the existing glass? I have a broken US DS mirror that I need to replace. I kinda like the panamirror idea.

I would have to open my mirrors up to be sure of the placement of the washers and the screws that need replaceing with longer ones. It's been more than 4 years since I faced that problem. My hands were not good back then and they are a lot less steady now. Putting the mirror back on it's hook is a job and a half for me.

As I earlier stated, the problem is that the casing gets hit by the mirror after a certain point and that stops the mirror. The solution for me was to simply move the mirror further out from the casing, thereby creating more space for it to swing and thereby allowing you the angles you need. Look at the assembly and it will become obvious. The self retracting feature will not be affected. The effect though is that the mirror sits out a bit and can be seen by passers by who know how to look. It's very tempting for fingers to latch on and try to rip off. Retyract your mirrors especially in Malls.

I finally found the time to do what Kalawang advised. I did a trial/error approach - started by putting in 2 washers then 4 plus longer screws. Although the effect is not comparable with a regular LHD mirror, the washers did significantly improve my field of vision. I would have put in more washers to get the most effect but I don't have longer screws. And putting in more would really make the mirror stick out of the housing.

Kalawang - thanks for the tip
Mudders - thanks again. I'm another LC owner that this forum helped resolved a problem.

Bringing this thread back from the dead....

My old 80s original mirrors are in sad shape, and the drivers mirror has the shakes bad. I took it apart hoping to use @Outsane repair kit, but discovered the previous owner had glued the mirror into the housing with what looked like 2 tubes of orange RTV, and then glued the mirror housing to the arm with 3 tubes of JB Weld... Idiot.

Being a picky guy who likes OEM parts, I got online and ordered up a set of OEM Toyota mirrors, and they arrived the other day. My truck was painted black (poorly) so the black finish of the raw plastic OEM mirrors looks about right and they went on without issue. What I neglected to realize was that I'd ordered RHD mirrors for my US Spec LHD vehicle. The angle of the dangle is all wrong, and I can't adjust the mirrors enough to see well. I tried to add washers, but it only spaces the case away from the mount, and doesn't affect the way the mirror moves. I *loathe* the idea of putting a set of cheap aftermarket ones on if I can avoid it. @Outsane do you have any slick ideas for making this work besides stainless hardware?

Option 2 is a set of aftermarket Depo mirrors....
