hey folks, I know these things can go for hundreds of thousands of miles but what sort of mileage should I be looking for if I intend to use one as a daily driver? In other words, is there some sort of mileage tipping point where I can expect significant issues?

Its a Maintenance (lack of) tipping point. Not mileage.

Buy the cleanest most maintained lowest mileage your budget affords. Sub 150 is now drawing a $ premium. Id prefer a well documented maintained specimen of higher miles than an unused/unknown.

    I DD mine.

Do your maintenance when things need it.

Oil changes based on a few Oil Test Reports from someone like Blackstone Labs.
Do a complete baseline on the truck when you get it. There are very comprehensive lists here that define "baselining".
Drive it. It will get 12-16 MPG, its slow.

It will take you anywhere you want to go.........SLOWLY.

I bought mine cheap and needed a LOT of maintenance. I now DD it and drive it 10-15K miles per year. I'm mostly a mall crawler.

Read 'Mud. Empty wallet. Enjoy your 80.

I have one with about 150k on it and two others near 300k. I'd take them anywhere. I drove one of the high mileage trucks home from SD, where I bought it.

BILT4ME is “right on the money”! I also DD my 91. I get right about 12 mpg out of the mighty 3F. Like stated...... “baseline” your 80 following lists in the FAQ section, and you should be fine. Maintenance ( on anything!) is your #1 Allie! Good luck and enjoy!
