Ok - so halfway through my interval I drain half my dirty oil and replace it with fresh oil.

Do you really believe your wear metals in the resulting sump mixture are as high as in the oil you just drained?

If so, I did not learn anything in Quantitative Analysis.

C'mon guys.

I did what Blackstone said, I put down the information they asked for.

This information specifically included how many "makeup" quarts of oil I put in the engine over the duration of the oil use.

There must be SOME reason why they ask this. I would imagine that they factor that into whatever equation that they use to come up with the measurements that are provided to us.

They do have a fairly good rep around here so, even if I am a fuzzy feeling fool, it at least does something to put my mind at rest about my main concern...WATER / COOLANT in the oil.

Even if I added ten quarts of oil, I would still have some traces of antifreeze in my oil if the HG was amiss, and there is none present.

That counts for something.

You guys can trash my report card all you want but it seems like a fairly positive outcome to me.

The truck, afterall, has 191K on it.

The truck was not burning that much oil before the 5w30 so I figure that the oil is too thin for the engine which is why I am trying something heavier.

I am not trying to fool myself, that won't help me in the middle of nowhere.

Well, I gotta go light a fire with my Blackstone report. :flipoff2:

well even if you doubled my 2 make up quarts my wear #'s may be lower then they were but not as low as the above reoprt,

Nice UOA,

that one would be in the nunning for one of the best reports ever at BITOG if it were not for the make up oil.

the numbers in the reoprt are not calibrated to make up oil, the interperitation by Blacksone should be and that is why it is asked for.
