Not quite what you are thinking about but it does add storage/usable space. I've been trying to figure out what that little pocket in the door is for... do I throw all my bottle caps in there?

I havent pulled the upolstry off it yet, is there a massive amount of structural stuff in there?

Yes, in the right hand door there is a support for the external wheel-support. I think it uses about 1/3th of the inner area. Left and right of it there is some space available.
The left-hand door is a bit more 'userfriendly' so to say.
But don't forget there is also some structural metalwork. Either you will have to adapt your storagecompartments to the open areas in that structure or take some of the structure out. I don't know what that does to the integrety of the doors.

something I plan to do but haven't yet... is make a canvas apron of sorts to go on the door, would screw on in a few spots and have a bunch of pockets for stuff. quick and easy, and creates lots of storage...

used to have similar things on the backs of my seat covers.

cheers,
ryan

ok.. a bit of hijack here..
along the lines of seapotato - i got a ride the other day with a guy who made custom trims for all his door panels and seats out of old denim jeans.. and had sewn in pockets everywhere.. heaps of space.. and a great idea (not in an LC tho)

hoser.. can you possibly post up some pics of your custom rear bar? or do you have a link? it looks pretty sweet

the fold down bench is a great solution too.. and easi

walker.. im looking at something similar for storage.. im in the process of customising rear drawers and a false floor..
the next step is to customise my side and rear panels with sheet aluminium and hope to get some boxes with pull out panels in there aswell

yeah.. i'll buy myself a star and start getting some pics up..
im getting materials this weekend..
second hand concreters formwork (18mm marine ply i think)
3mm ali sheet and i'll probs be using ali angle and most likely heavy dutypop rivetts

for the rear side panels im keen on having pull out panels (kinda like the stock pull out panel in the LHS), rather than hinged doors as such..
this way if im loaded up, i wont have to move too much stuff around to get access

so i guess im going to have a build story to post up.. yay, i can actualy contribute to this gr8 furum!!
