swapped out 4spd on my 79 20r to a 81 5spd L50 I think, put in clutch fork off 81 also put new slave cylinder for it .I can not get it to bleed .clutch disengages about 1/4 " off floor tried switching rod to adjustable one off 4speed still no luck did pump and dump and vacume bleed still no luck clutch worked fine before swap.yes the masters full yes had pedal to floor while opening bleeder, any suggestians appreiciated laying under truck while dw presses clutch looks like its moving full motion ? ive had defective parts new out of box may replace slave again and try master . I don't think geometry of fork is different from year to year ,could b wrong fork? ?btw don't bother doing this if u have 4.10 gears I have 4.38s or 4.56 in my 79- green paint on pinion shaft .green should be 4.38 but counts as 4.56 .buddys 4.10 4 runner wouldn't drive in 5th unless down hill with wind behind him

Help me clarify a couple things... You say the slave rod seems to travel it's full distance right? Are you getting a spongy 'soft' feel in the clutch pedal? Were you able to bleed anything from the line? As in, does fluid come out when pressing the pedal while bleeder is open? Or does it just seemed clogged?

So you adjusted the master cylinder rod that attachs to the clutch pedal

Is your clutch master new? Might have some air caught in it. Try bench bleeding your master. Or slap a new one on. They are like $25 bucks shipped to your door.

A new master is always good cheap insurance when diagnosing this type of issue. I always bench bleed prior to install. I'm still confused, is your clutch working at all?

update still sitting in garage, bench bled slave and bought new master not installed yet but worked fine before tranny swap still no luck need to get off but and fix it. older you get the more spare Toyotas you have the lazier you get .yes clutch works just disengages 1/4 "off floor

Something isn't setup right. Either the Master commoner isn't adjusted right or maybe the throw out brearing isn't on right.

Let's eliminate a few things... Have someone slowly push the clutch pedal in while you watch the slave cylinder. Does it travel smoothly and it's full distance? Does quickly, and consistently respond to pedal pressure and de-pressure? If so then it is a problem past the slave, maybe throw out bearing, maybe shift fork? Simply a worn out clutch?

ok I fixed it, checked throw on dw's 84 22r with g52 I just bought her about 7/16" checked 79 about 31/64 " there is a sweet spot in there if to long or short doesn't work had adjustable one off 4 sp. I modified and made 1/8" longer to match 84 drives fine I kept thinking it worked right before tranny change and coincidence of master or slave failing at same time as tranny change was astronomical. Its all a learning experience but I believe there are slight differences in the geometry from different tranny clutch forks year to year or tranny to tranny.
