78 FJ40 - Transmission mystery wire (1 Viewer)

Hi Mudders,

Just finished up rebuilding the 4 speed transmission and broke off this black wire connected to a switch on top of the transmission. Could it be a ground? Haven't had much luck figuring out what it is and where to find a new one. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It’s for your reverse lights.

Reverse switch is located at the rear of the transmission top cover.

The OP is asking about the broken 4th gear position switch. It can be ignored, unless the vehicle is failing smog test in 4th gear.

Thank goodness. I'm in the exact same situation. Glad I found this thread! Now I just have to figger out why my reverse light stays on.
