'78 FJ40 third with ARB

1978 FJ40 third member set up with a RD08 ARB, RD08's can be used front or rear. It was installed at a local 4x4 shop less than a year ago and has very little use on it. Comes with the solenoid, switch and about 8 feet of airline. The gears are stock 4.10 ratio with the coarse spline pinion. $600 obo, buyer pays for shipping from 04401.

Too bad it isn't a 4.88, looking for a spare.

A 1978 should have fine splines, BTW.

I agree, it should be a fine spline pinion, but it definitely isn't. The truck was manufactured in late '77, I seem to remember reading on here somewhere that some early '78's got the coarse splines???

Where are you located, and what to you mean by coarse spline? I thought everything past a '70 was 30 spline on the inner axle, but I'm no expert.

He means Course splined Pinion (Common Falure point)

in 78 they switched to Fine splined pinion, so most 78's are fine splined and 4.10 gears

Yup, coarse spline pinion. They can be considered a weak point if used in the rear, but I've never heard of anyone shearing a pinion in a front axle application. I'm located in Bangor ME, 04401. I'd do $600 shipped (if you live in the lower 48)
