Anyone know if a 76 japan bed will fit on an 88 P/U without too much drama? They are both 6' but I can't get to the 76 until next week to do any measuring. Worried about the gas door and spare tire drop thing being an issue.

Someone told me yesterday that even the newer beds are different between 4WD and 2WD ? I can't imagine why they would be he said he was sure they were.
79+ beds are different 2wd and 4wd as they have different fenders. Early trucks also had a different bed rail system, and different tailgate latches.
While the lines of the 1st and 2nd gen beds vary, the bolt patterns are the same.
I have a 2nd gen ('84) 2WD bed on my 1st gen ('83) 4WD frame.

Those early beds are very hard to find parts for ie tail lenses. I searched for one for quite a while and never found one that was not broken.

Well I have pretty much given up on finding a bed or a tailgate for mine. Going to make a tailgate from expanded metal and tube and shoot a cheap paint job on the whole thing and call it done.
