Ok so I am putting a new fuel pump on the cruiser..got everything snugged up and ready to go and no fuel....cranked it until it died and still no suction on the pump...like it wasn't being actuated by the eccentric off the arm or something.

I have lots of manuals, but they all speak in generalities. Do I need 2 gaskets and an insulation block? I know this is the problem bc I ordered a new gasket from auto zone bolted it on and am now scratching my head...after research this am realized all they gave me was a spacer...which is way thicker than a gasket.

Also to note the old pump the PO had on it did NOT have a spacer...just the remnants of one gasket.

Can anyone clarify as I don't want to keep trying with a spacer I don't need or try it without it and break the arm off my new pump...thanks

below is the haynes showing a gasket, spacer, another gasket, then the pump and another showing my new pump with JUST a spacer which autozone said was a gasket???

thanks for any advice....it's a simple fix, but I don't know what combination to use.
