Is anyone running disc brakes with the original FJ rims? I bought mine with the disc brake conversion already done but it includes spacers pushing the wheels out beyond the body. Looking for guidance on how to get back to the original rim setup with disc brakes. Regards, Brad

Been spending some cash on my 70 FJ40 and thinking real hard about disk brakes. The brake part doesn't concern me much but would like to put a PB booster on.
Looking at 7" diameter boosters and looks like it would squeak in with minor cutting but by the time I got all the adapter plates in I might have to move the radiator forward a few inches.
That is an exaggeration but the unit will hang out there quite a bit.
Questions are, anyone put a PB booster on a pre power brake FJ40?
If so, what did you use?
Anyone do the disks and run with out booster?
If so, how does the peddle feel?

The PO of my 40 tried this with a spacer bracket that converts the 3 hole pattern to the later model 4 and moves the booster out to clear the firewall rib, yet for some reason he still cut the rib and apparently gave up so he plumbed the brakes up with the JT outfitters 3 to 4 adapter and a 2 circuit master and proportioning valve. So no power, but he gave me a box with all the parts. I can see how with the booster and MC he was using it would interfere with the carb, and perhaps the clutch line. Perhaps it would work with the mini truck booster city racer llc sells and a smaller MC.... Im thinking Ill live with it and go hydro boost when I eventually do power steering

Just l looked up hydro boost and seems like a lot of plumbing, plus it sounds like you might have to up grade the PS pump.
I have been looking at 7" dia. booster units and think I will take a shot at that first.

City Racer Spacer, power booster and 1" dual circuit master cylinder from 1992 non ABS FZJ80. CR Spacer makes the booster clear the bolts on the clutch master. You will also need an adjustable proportioning valve.
I am fabbing up some rear brackets to use 100 series rear calipers with my 73 and 70. I already have a 1980 front axle with disks up front, adding the rears and want to stay toyota. All the kits out there are pretty good and cheap to maintain as they use GM parts. But I cant bring myself to buy anything GM, kind of like drinking pepsi, so I will figure out the hole geometry using the toyota calipers.
As a bonus, I have the 'lifetime' brakes for all my cruisers from autozone, so pads will be free.
They hate me as I come see them often, I use the 100 pads for my 100 and also use the 100 fronts on my 80. now I will use the 100 rears on my 40.

Gonna revive all the disc threads lol.
I have a 81 hj47 rhd from aus. It's all drum brakes.
I think there were models or options starting my year for disc brakes. Is it just a swap of knuckle and brake components?
I have to do a knuckle rebuild so hoping to get this out the way too.
all 4 if possible.

Did you ever fab up rear brackets to use 100 calipers on the rear of your 1970 40?

@Green Bean
I have installed a full front and rear disk conversion on my 75 project. I am working on altering the adapters to accommodate the 60 Series front Calipers and the 100 Series rears. In the middle of getting my warehouse organized so I can roll these projects in and also get some other operations off the ground. I will post up a separate thread when I have it completed.
