I have had water leaks coming thru the dashboard into the footwell of a HJ75 Troopy. Prime suspect is the neglected rust under the rubber surround of the front windscreen. The windscreen has a chip in it and a small crack in upper RH corner. So in anticipation I got me a UK spec LJ70 which shares the same rubber gasket and glass as the HJ75. Unfortunately i bust the glass when tryinG to get the LJ70 glass out. I was happier cutting the old gasket out of the HJ75.

I see both frames has some sort of sealant under the outside rubber.

Anyways, I see the LJ70 has 2 drainholes on the inside lip of the surround. The HJ75 does not. Is this right?

Im going to cut out the HJ75 surround rust and weld in patches from the better LJ70 surround. Hopefully I can get away without taking the dashboard out.

The rust doesn't seem particularly bad. I have seen much worse. As for the drain holes, not sure. Adding some might be good idea?
When I did mine, I sprayed heaps of fisholene inside the frame . That was a decade ago and so far no more rust yet.

Mine can fold down but that gasket is not great and there has been rust in many areas.
I laid damp towels on the dash when welding.
I sprayed cavity wax inside the frame. Seems to help.
