Hi all,

I'm still in the early stages of importing a 70 series from japan.
I'm targeting a 1999-2001 HZJ76 with a manual gearbox, power windows, and as clean as possible.

I'm watching several sites like cars from japan, bulldog auto, and Tc-v and I'm baffled by the pricing variances.

It seems that a manual gearbox adds 4-5k to the price
White vehicles are more expensive than green, tan, or silver.
Alloy or aftermarket rims and tires seem to sometimes add 5-10k.
Chrome diving board bumpers seem to reduce the price by 5k.
Mileage doesn't seem to have a much impact as i would think.

Is there any known intelligence on how these prices are set or driven by the market?

As a casual observer, I sorta get the manual transmission premium. I prefer white, so I also sorta get that.
I would think a lot of people would update tires and possibly rims, once stateside, so I don’t get that.
The “front porch” bumpers seem very common on the JDM Cruisers, so I can’t see how that affects the price one way or the other. High mileage would be significant if associated with the absence of a service history or obvious abuse.
How’s that for saying a lot without providing anything concrete? 😁

Ha!
At least I'm not crazy

I was assuming there was esoteric cruiser-Fu that had to do with costs to be borne once stateside. I.e, different bumpers are hard to source, different trims and interiors I was ignorant of that are sought after, preferred features you can't add later, etc.

Tires and rims are easy to come by (some effort may be required to determine the proper offset). If I’m not mistaken, sourcing a brushbar should be equally easy. I’m going with the assumption that it’s powered by a 1HZ diesel?
For most people, the lack of cupholders, was the biggest concern and even that problem has been solved by a number of aftermarket companies. 😁
