70 series 1HZ prefilter location?

For those of you with diesel 70's that have a factory fuel prefilter/housing... where is it located?

I don't believe my JDM HZJ79 firetruck has one unless its hidden in an unusual spot that I missed. Its something im interesting in adding provided I can get the part numbers and the parts are available.

Not out consideration would be to add an aftermarket filter base or machine one that I can fit a 2 micron CAT filter on. That would probably be the better option since it is a huge filter by comparison and meant for much more sensitive unit or common-rail filtering needs. Plus those filters are readily available in the States and through volume, would last a long time with the fuel demand of the 1HZ.

Keeping it OEM is also pretty nice...

Mine did not have a pre-filter so I made up a bracket for a filter mount (WIX Filter Mounting Base Amazon.com: WIX Filter Mounting Base : Automotive - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CSEUTM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share), compatible with Dutton-Lainson Company golden rod filters

I got these as they are low restriction, designed for use in gravity feed applications, and the injector pump has to suck the fuel from the tank so I figured the lower the flow restriction the better. There are two filter variants, one with water absorbent fibers and one without. The bracket/adapter I made uses some of the oem threaded holes beside the original filter, I can get a picture if you’re interested.

If you order the filter mount you’ll need to put some sealant on the filter thread adapter, as it doesn’t come with any and there’s enough of a gap for leakage across the in->out side of the filter. I used permatex 56521 which has worked well for me in the past in gasoline and diesel fuel applications.

There "should" be a screen in the tank on the pickup that should be a priority to replace at some point sooner than later....fun job that requires dropping the tank to access.

Toyota calls it a suction tube but if you dig up part off megazip diagram and punch it into amayama they sometimes give you a picture like this
