I have a few questions about the area shown in the pics below. I'm not sure what year LC's had these supports but I haven't noticed them in other rebuild threads that I've read. I need to know how others have fixed this problem,

The first pic is for orientation.

The second pic is of the rust caused by trapped moisture from the object in the third pic.

I have removed one side already but still need to finish patching the holes. After I'm done and ready to reassemble it is where I need some advise. The support is welded into place so I will most likely need weldable primer, is that correct. Should I seam seal around the edges to help prevent this from happening again? How about the large gap, should I seal it up with something. Or should I drill some drain holes?

What have you done to fix yours?

I don't know what the heck the bracket is, but yes on all your fixes. Clean thoroughly, weld through primer and seam seal all the edges (get the liquid stuff and run it in the seams along the inside of that gap, or close the gap with a peice of metal and seal it. These bodies would have lasted forever if they didn't have seams.

Grind n weld and 2 X on the seam seal

The Bracket ( Seat Belt's ) the only SAE bolt on the FJ40 was requierd by the DOT i have the same on my 66.

fender well

Thanks for the replies. I noticed that the seat belt hangers were SAE but thought it was a PO thing. Good information to know.

Should I totally fill the smaller voids with seam sealer? If so is there a special one that I should use.

I noticed some photos which were embeded via attachment, are not loading after the forum update...

Is anyone else seeing this?

My last post finally got the pic up, not sure how. By the way Destin, love your rig. Wish mine was in that good of shape. I only hope to have one that people stop and say " that rig is in great shape for it's age" when I'm finished. I don't think I have the talent and I know I don't have the money to to create a "WOW that's nice" like Dustys rig.

Pics as requested

I didn't document the "before" with photos very well. The first 2 photos is how she came home.

This is how she looks now. Been this way for a very long time. My frame is in the back waiting it's turn in the garage. Once I get the tub done I think I have a space to store it until I get the frame done.

As I tore it down I took lots of photos and made lots of notes to help with getting her back together. The plan is as stock as possible. Spring green was the color and so it will be again some day. No hard rock crawling just an everyday rig I can take off road for a little hunting or High Altitude diving. I can't wait to drive her again. 3 on the tree is way cool!

How does it run?

I fixed the brakes and drove it for a summer to see if the drive train needed any immediate attention and it ran pretty good. I didn't test the 4wd however. I did an up grade to the oil filter because I couldn't find the right one for my year. I would like to go back to the OE filter. I had to change the water pump to a newer edition and would like to find an OE one also. It came with a sears after market heater and off the top of my head everything else is stock. I do need to get a PAKI top. I already have the correct rims and the hub caps are on order. Slow but sure I'll get there.
