Can anyone give me any guidance on what the factory top color would have been on my 1964 SWB, white cap or same as body color?

My truck has Spring Green top over white primer matching the rest of the truck. I believe it to be the original paint.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

It should be the same color as the truck. At least that is the way my 1965 SWB is. As far as I know, the white top did not come out until a little later.

That's what it looks like in the black & white advertising literature that I have seen. But I thought I would put the word out to make sure.

Thanks!

Mike

mine was probably red, but a huge part of the "cruiser" look for me is a white top. I love a white top on a cruiser, as body color makes it seem bland (again, personal like).

I think it goes good with the original faded red. Mine is a "working truck" I drive it regularly. Maybe someday it'll go through a restoration.

Keep up the good work! Dallas

Nice picture :D

I agree with the "white top makes it a cruiser" crowd, but I have read many times on mud that the early trucks and non-removables had body color originally.

Peter,

Thanks for the photo above. I do think that there may have been both styles, and in my particular case the cap color was the same as the body. However, I do agree with Dallas & Kevin that as far as aesthetics go, I may opt for the early off-white color that matches the bezel. Olympus White I think?

Thanks for the input.

What would I do ?
Would spray a non removable top in body color,
a removable in white.
Cheers
Peter

Mine is a non-removable top as well. Hmmm...

My initial reaction to the brochure photo with the truck painted all one color is that it looks ugly. In Spring Green I think it might look better, and I can always repaint it white later.

I'll have to do some thinking. I'm not so much of a purist to go with the white if it looks better.

Thanks for all your input.

Mike

May not make a big difference in Ogden, but the white cap will keep the truck cooler inside.

If you were in TX or AZ, I'd say go white, and conversley if you were in BC or AK, I'd say body color.

Me, well, my 64 FJ45 swb cap used to be body color, but the last time I did the paint I went white.

Got one? Follow Dallas' example and toss up a pic so Mike can *see* what he thinks looks best. Here are mine...

Spring Green. The roof and bezel are white... but sort of a cream white rather than the refer white seen on some rigs. It's not correct I'm sure but it looks great to me.

Beige... lid same color and bezel in same color as gray used on interior trim.

Here's a few of my ride with the white cap and white bezel.

I need to take a pic with the embossed Landcruiser bezel that I've highlighted in blue enamel to match the body.

J**p paints the top the same colour as the rest of the truck, so it can't be all bad, right?:D Land Rover often paint their trucks all one colour as well.... so I guess you can just paint it all one colour, and make it look more like a J**p or a Land Rover....or paint it white and make it look more like the best 4WD ever made.:hhmm: Either way is cool.

Cheers,

Josh

Wow... Now thats a clean looking truck. Love the wheels, tires, bezel and black running boards.

Thanks,

Mike

I'd like to see that. I've got one of those and not quite sure which way to go with it.

Thanks,

Mike
